Get your device out of the Android dark ages with an Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich AOKP ROM.

What is AOKP you may ask?

AOKP explains themselves on their About page as such:

“AOKP stands for Android Open Kang Project. It is a custom ROM distribution for many Android devices. The name is a play on the word “kang” and AOSP (Android Open Source Project). The name was sort of a joke, but it just stuck, just like our infatuation with unicorns.”

Your probably asking yourself how this pertains to you. Well if you are interested in upgrading the version of Android on your device, unofficially of course, then this post will be your gateway.

AOKP has two types of releases; Builds, aka Nightlies, and Milestones.
Milestones are stable releases while the builds, or nightlies, have the most bleeding edge features and code.

Currently, the most recent release from AOKP is Milestone 6, which is available for over 30 of the most popular devices. Some even a few years old like my Droid Incredible 2.

First off, you device needs to be rooted with a custom recovery such as ClockworkMod or 4ext installed. If you don’t have root, you need to get it before you try anything in this post. If you don’t have a custom recovery installed, you need to get one, or I will assume you a very good with Fastboot commands and don’t need this post.

Please don’t venture beyond this sentence if you do not have root with a custom recovery.

Head HERE and locate your device and download the AOKP Milestone 6 ROM.

Also, do not forget to download Google Apps (gapps) at the bottom of the device page. YOU WILL NEED THESE!

Once you have installed the Gapps and your devices AOKP ROM on your PC, please move both of these over to you SD card.

Once there, please reboot into your custom recovery.

Make a backup of your current ROM! We do this just in case anything goes wrong.

When the backup is done, please wipe data+cache and also your dalvik cache. These items may not be on the main page depending on what recovery you are using. IT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED THAT YOU DO THIS, BUT OPTIONAL!

After the full wipe, choose the install Zip from SD card option and select the ROM file first.

After that has flashed succesfully, follow the same steps, and flash the Gapps.

Once this is done, you officially have Ice Cream Sandwich on your device!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just Reboot Your Phone, Wait For It To Set Itself Up, Then You All Set. Just Log In And Take Your First Bite Of That Ice Cream Sandwich!

If you have any questions, or get stuck anywhere, leave us a comment and someone will help you.

There are also other resources you can try if you get stuck;
Check The XDA Forums if you get stuck or lost. Just search your phone and your question.
