Google voice is a great concept and an excellent product but unfortunately Google has been ignoring it for the last couple of years for the most part which is very irritating. On top of the neglected support it still doesn’t have MMS support and the UI is mediocre and laggy. Well thanks to Koush that second problem has been fixed.
Just a couple of days ago in a Google+ post Koush from ClockworkMod said that he had found a way to get Google Voice SMS working through any SMS app. Then yesterday morning he followed up to his with the first build of an app that will do just that. It works like this:
The app will sync your existing Google Voice messages into your messaging store. New Google SMS will be received as if it were a normal SMS.
When you send a message out from your messaging app, it goes out via Google Voice.
There is one catch though, right now the app only works for users using Cyanogenmod (July 1 build or later). So if your running Cyanogenmod download Google Voice, a texting app of your choosing, and Koush’s app then hit up his Google+ page for instructions.
