Google I/O Recap: Hangouts

Google I/O Recap: Hangouts

One of the Android topics talked about at I/O this year was Google’s redoing of the Google Talk app. The app received a complete UI  overhaul and name change that essentially made the app an entirely new app called Hangouts. The UI overhaul that the app received looks great as does the new green color scheme. Everything looks clean, green, and runs smooth. There is something significant missing from the new app though that has a good majority of people including myself very disappointed, SMS support. Yes that’s right folks, no SMS support, this is a huge letdown as this was supposed to be Google’s solution to having many messaging apps and cross-platform messaging. At this time all the app can do is what the old Google Talk app could do, instant message other people who have the app downloaded onto their phone as well. There is a little bit of good news though, the Hangouts app is available on the Apple App Store and for Chrome Store for your desktop which does slightly help with the cross-platform messaging problem but it still requires both users to have the app downloaded if they want to message eachother. It is almost the same as the iOS version with just a few less smaller features that will more than likely be brought to the Android version in some of the future updates. For those of you who do not know what instagram is, it is a picture sharing app almost like twitter. The point of it is to share your best and most ceative pictures with other instagram users and see what they think of them. You take a pic, post it and other people will leave comments about your pic and say what they think about it.  Just like twitter, you have followers and you follow other people so they can see all of the pictures you post and you can see all of the pictures they post. The app is very smooth and the layout is very nice and user friendly. Its very easy to post your pictures on the app and very easy to follow other people you know to veiw thier pictures. Overall the app is amazing and fun to get involved with especially if you enjoy using twitter.  And for the price of absolutely free, it’s definitaly worth...
