More than half of the world’s population owns a cell phone.  Mobile devices have become the norm in everyone’s daily life but it may come with a cost.  Research has shown that the more a user uses the phone for texting, calling, and just playing games, the more likely that they will become addicted to the little electronics.  There are also potential health risks with using and having cellular devices around because as the device is transmitting signals to cell towers, it is also transmitting the same signals right through the user. As the world goes more and more mobile, the risk of negative side affects caused by the very devices we depend on grows with every second that we hold our devices close to us.

There have been many claims about negative issues with cell phone usage but one symptom that has been highly researched is the issue with ghost notifications.  As anyone that depends on their cell phone or keeps it in their pocket for long periods of time can support, the feeling of a cell phone notification can sometimes be felt even when there is none.  These “ghost notifications” have been researched upon time and time again with very little links to serious issues with the human brain.  It is not actually known why people can constantly feel the vibration of a cell phone but it most likely part of a reflex or similarity that people’s bodies have adapted to with the use of cell phones for a long period of time.

One of the biggest issues with the over use of cellular devices is the addiction that users get from using them.  It has been found that when users receive a text message or some other form of communication from someone, the user’s brain releases a small amount of natural dopamine.  This small amount of dopamine is not enough for the user to actually realize that they have been “drugged” but it is enough, over time, for the brain to become extremely addicted to sending and receiving text messages.  So what is so wrong with having a texting addiction? When subjects are studied, researchers have noted that those addicted tended to miss meals, skipping events, and being sleep deprived all because they are too busy texting to remember what they need to do and not having enough time to do them.

While the above two scares of texting have been found to have some truth in them, most users hear about the following theory some researchers have and instantly want to drop their phones on the ground.  Many scientists have spent hours researching and warning the public on the many ways that using cell phone can potentially hurt you.  Their theories come from the knowledge that everything that goes to or from a cellular device is in the form of a radio signal or some sort of microwave.  Of course government agencies like the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) have had their eyes on every device that has come to the market just to make sure no harm would come to those that use cell phones.

Just because cell phones have been found to be safe to users, it is not enough for some people who have wild beliefs about the seamlessly harmless devices.  Since people have started researching cell phones and the networks that carry the data to and from the device, people have been linking deadly diseases to the use of cell phones.  Some radical thinkers also believe that cell phones release radiation and that the more a user uses their device, the more poisoned and likely to develop a deadly disease.  Of course licensed professionals from around the globe have spent time on that theory and have proved it false.  Researchers have publicly stated on multiple occasions that people are not carrying around little death machine.  While there may be minute amounts of microwaves and electromagnetic radiation that are used to get cell phones to work, these levels are so low that they do not cause any negative affects on people.

The number one health scare for users is the fact that they can distract someone so easily.  Now people use their mobile phone in every aspect of their day.  If people are always on their phones, which means they are also potentially using the little distracting devices at times when it is not safe to.  An example of when it is not safe to use cell phone is when people are driving.  Researchers have studied driving habits and have concluded that drivers are much more distracted when they are fumbling with a phone.  Some states like California, Nevada and many more have outlawed the use of cell phones with the exception that they are allowed to use hands free Bluetooth devices to that enable drivers to make calls without the use of looking down at their device and talking to someone.

There are always going to be those that believe that any piece of technology can somehow hurt people but in real world situations, is it really worth worrying about the little issues that come out of using these devices?  As it has been stated already that there has been research to find out of cellular devices may hurt their owners, there has been the same amount if not more research done to disprove any belief that cell phones may be causing damage to people.  Almost every day, a news report can be heard that pertains to this very subject.  As long as there is some source of panic and fear of an object, this panic and fear will spread like wild fire to those who take a slight interest in the matter and believes what is being said.

In today’s world, people would not willingly just stop using their cellular devices.  Everywhere there is a population of people, there will almost always be the same amount or more cell phones in the same area.  This fact is mind blowing to those selling cellular devices because they now have a product that everyone wants and now rely on for day-to-day life.  Martin Cooper, a Motorola researcher and executive, placed the first mobile phone call on April 3rd, 1973.  This first call has revolutionized the entire world.  The invention of the cell phone has not only changed the way people live their lives, but it has also changed how businesses and even governments work.  People can like them or dislike them, but either way, cellular devices have made their way into every aspect of people’s lives and become such a convenience that there would be no way to just stop the use of them until the next great communication device is created.

As the world looks to the future of mobile communication, it looks for something that is just as mobile as today’s cellular devices but packed with a lot more features.  Some products have already been introduced to the market that has tried to the next great thing.  One of these products is the tablet.  Tablets have been around longer than most remember (Bill Gates showed off Microsoft’s Windows Tablet in 2002) but it has not been until recent years that people have been in a tablet craze.  The tablet market did not take off until Steve Jobs showed off the first generation iPad in January or 2010.  Since that date, thousands of other manufactures have created their own mobile computers in hope to be part of the next big technology craze.  To try to compete with the cell phone market, some tablets were equipped with cellular chips so that they could connect to the internet while on the go just like cell phones do.  Unlike what tablet makers hoped, tablets did not become the next cell phone, but just a great companion to the phone.  There will always be more innovation on making people happy with technology and some companies believe that they have the next greatest idea and are doing the most that they can do to make their ideas come to life.  One company that is doing just that is Google.  Google is making wearable glasses that has a heads up display and can do everything a cell phone can and more.  Of course the main reason people are scared of the cell phone is the cellular networks that flow in and out of the phone.  No matter what though, these same networks will still be in place for decades to come and newer products will still rely on this exact technology for its’ mobile connection.

As the world goes more and more mobile, the risk of negative side affects caused by the very devices we depend on grows with every second that we hold our devices close to us.  Something that people cannot control is the amount of wirelessly connected electronic devices are around them.  In the past, people have either taken to newer trends like computers and cell phones while others have avoided them entirely.  These devices can no longer be avoided due to the fact they are now the center of attention in many people’s lives.  As the future of mobile devices grows in potential, so grows the amount of skeptics who would rather not see electronics evolve and believe that only negative side effects will only grow with the use of the technology.  As long as there is a market for these products and people have a use for them, they will not be going anywhere.  People may choose not to come in contact with any mobile device but the need to use the said products are becoming greater for day-to-day life.
