Well folks it’s finally here, the Galaxy S5, we have been waiting months for this device to be made official and endured rumors galore but now it’s here. The Samsung Unpacked 2014 event has just ended and Samsung made the device official going over the new UX, new fitness capabilities and much more so lets dive right in.
Lets first start off with a basic rundown of the specs:
- 5.1-inch full HD display (1080p Super AMOLED)
- Android 4.4 KitKat
- 2GB of RAM
- Micro SD Card Storage
- IP67 Rating (Water and Dust Resistant)
- 802.11 ac WiFi, with MIMIO (2×2)
- Bluetooth 4.0 LE (Low-Energy)
- USB 3.0
- IR Port
- 2800 mAh Battery (Removable)
- 2.5GHz Quad-Core Processor
- 16MP Camera
- Rear Heart Rate Sensor
- Fingerprint Scanner
This phone is definitely a powerhouse that can do everything you would want a smartphone to do plus a little more. Plus you will be glad to hear that Samsung has toned down TouchWiz a bit so that the phone is less cluttered. It’s also great to see that the phone that is destined to be the most popular phone in the world upon its release has adopted an IP67 rating making it water and dust resistant.
Samsung has also adopted a lot more fitness focused software features for the S5 making it the perfect companion device when it comes to people who want to stay physically fit. Pair the S5 with a Gear Fit and you’ve got yourself a personal fitness trainer.
They have also decided to include a fingerprint scanner in the S5, whether or not they are copying the iPhone I think it’s a great move by Samsung. They are allowing you to use it to do things like make purchases with PayPal so it has to work well or they would not do this. A fingerprint scanner will allow for more secure use of apps and information not allowing anyone else but you access your phone and it’s information. Like the man on stage said, “No more complicated security questions.”
One more thing worth talking about with this phone is the amazing camera that it is packing. A 16 megapixel shooter, capable of auto-focusing in 0.3 seconds, the fastest auto-focus on any smartphone to date. Want to take a HDR photo? Well no more talking a picture and waiting 3 seconds for the image to process, with the S5 what you see is already HDR, yes folks real-time HDR, this also applies to video recording. So all you have to do is snap your picture, it’s instantaneous.
We are going to be hearing a lot more over the next month or so about the Galaxy S5 from things such as pricing and carrier options so be sure to stay posted to AndroidMeter for all of the up-to-date news when it comes to the Galaxy S5.
