PhoneArena has received this alleged photos of the upcoming Asus/Google Nexus 7 (name not confirmed yet). These photos reveal several features that have not come up before. The biggest is the color scheme; the front is a solid white while the back is a two toned gray and black panel (maybe a plastic or rubber for radio signal). Having a three toned tablet is a little odd so maybe this actually means there will be two different colored tablets available at release (black and white).
Recent rumors have “confirmed” that this tablet will be priced between $200 and $250 while running on a NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad core processor. They have also stated that the Nexus 7 will sport a 7″ screen. While people still speculate that the tablet will launch with Android Jelly Bean, recent rumors have stated that JB will be Android 4.1, not 5.0. This makes sense because JB is not going to be a huge jump in the operating system like when phones jumped from 2.3 Gingerbread to 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich – this will be more of a 2.1 Éclair to 2.2 Froyo update.
Going back to the photos of the Nexus 7, I do not find them logical. For one, the “leaked” photo of the front of the tablet looks just like the international Samsung Galaxy Note minus the home button. My second issue is the front ear piece (front speaker). Now many have speculated that this could be made to be used with VoIP. This brings back memories of the Dell Streak and its failure because Dell wanted people to have the functionality of a tablet that could make calls. Most people that I know do not want to carry around a 7″ phone and then hold it up to their faces to talk to people.
Of course with Google IO just weeks away, more and more rumors will be surging out about this device and many others. Even though we love hearing about what the device might look like, we have to wait until Google IO to see the finished product.
