Just as other major companies have done in the past, it looks like Google is set to continue a one year refresh cycle for releasing flagship Android devices, as new information has leaked out pointing towards a holiday season release for the upcoming Ice Cream Sandwich representative device. This information comes from Boy Genius Report, who says that the device could come out as the Nexus 4G, dropping the “S” in favor of a 4G LTE radio.

As far as specs go, it looks like Google will be playing catch-up again for the most part, with the first ICS device packing a “next-generation” 1.2/1.5GHz dual-core processor (possibly an OMAP 4460 or 28nm Krait-based Snapdragon), 720p display, 1GB of RAM, support for 1080p playback, a 1MP front-facing camera, and an incredibly high quality 5MP shooter around the back. Of course since the device will be running Ice Cream Sandwich, there will be no physical buttons for navigation.

BGR was quick to mention that they don’t have a carrier attached to the rumor, but that AT&T is a good bet. They also referenced the fact that the officially unnamed ICS device in question may not release as a Nexus at all.

Other than having the latest version of Android installed, it seems that Google’s next big thing will be more of a Nexus S scenario than Nexus One. The specs are more than impressive, but won’t exactly be revolutionary. By the time next Christmas rolls around, would you like to see an Ice Cream Sandwich under your tree?
