We learn about things in this way more and more these days, job advertisements, one posted by the parent company of Mercedes-Benz, Daimler, seems pretty interesting. The job advertisement asks for a software engineer who can assist Mercedes-Benz in implementing Google’s upcoming in-car system, “Google Projected Mode”. This in-car system by Google will “seamlessly integrate” Android smartphones into the dashboard of the Mercedes that this is integrated with. We are not really sure on what this is going to be used for or what it’s limitations will be but we presume it will provide a bigger display that will project your Android phone and allow you to do things like navigate using Google Maps and receive SMS and calls through the car’s audio system.

Google was bound to do something along these lines as its competitor Apple has its own up and coming in-car system dubbed “iOS in the Car”. There is still no word on how Google’s in-car system will incorporate your Android smartphone, whether it will be done by cable or wirelessly, hopefully wirelessly.

This is huge news that a car company as prestigious as Mercedes-Benz is adopting Google into their new cars and it would be great to see this spread to other car companies. From whats going on with Apple and Google it appears that the next battleground for the two giants is the automobile.
