It looks like Google’s camera app will soon be on the Google Play Store allowing it to receive updates independent of entire Android updates on Nexus devices. Endgadget’s sources have confirmed to them that this will indeed be happening, and it will be happening sooner than later. This comes as perfect timing as Google is supposedly currently working on and testing a new version of their camera app with new effects and features.
It was only a matter of time before Google added their Camera app to the Play Store, Motorola has successfully done it and we are willing to bet that HTC will soon be doing the same with their camera app. This allows companies to update their camera app without users having to wait until an entire Android update to get it, but that’s not going to be the only plus that comes from this for Google. Google will supposedly also be opening the app to developers so that they may incorporate custom effects into Google’s camera app.
While we have no word on when Google’s camera app will hit the Play Store we do have a relative time window, soon. I am willing to bet that it will happen sometime in the next two weeks so keep your eyes peeled for that little gem on the Play Store.
