Google appears to be on an update roll today, following the significant Google Search update that began rolling out earlier today Google is now pushing out an update for Google Play Newsstand. There are a couple small things that the update changed but the most prevalent one and perhaps the one that most people have been awaiting is the new widget. The widget is a pretty basic 4X3 single story viewing situation, an arrow at the bottom right of the widget lets you scroll to the next story.

Other changes that have been made to Newsstand include mostly interface changes, you’ll notice that the interface has received a little spring cleaning. Settings and Help are now located in the slide out menu of the app following Google’s new app design more closely than before. Something has also been added to the drop-down menu located at the top right of the app, Mini cards. Mini cards compress the larger article previews down to a one or two-line headline with a substantially smaller thumbnail making the app more mobile friendly and making it faster to skim through material.
