Google had their fourth quarter earnings report today and during a conference call the Nexus 5 was deemed a success sales wise. Google CFO Patrick Pichette said during the conference call that the Nexus 5 was a very strong performer for Google. This information comes at an ironic time, a time when there is talk of Google getting rid of the Nexus brand completely.
Other than calling the Nexus 5 a very strong performer, Patrick did not say anything else about the Nexus 5 such as how many had been sold to date. In addition to the Nexus 5, the Chromecast was touted as Google’s best-selling product in Q4 of 2013. The Nexus 5 and Chromecast however were not the only products that received praise by Google today during the conference call. Although not products, apps and content sold through Google Play were deemed as a big source of revenue as well.
The Nexus line of devices has always been Google’s way of providing developers a guideline for how to create devices around the new major Android releases. Talk of Google eliminating the Nexus line just doesn’t seem right and we hope that it isn’t for the sake of Android.
