Next week the folks over at Facebook will showcase a newsfeed makeover at a media event set to take place on March 7th in Menlo Park. The company apparently sent out email invitations to the press on Friday. This event will be Facebook’s second big event this year, the first one being its social search feature event that took place back in January.
Facebook’s newsfeed is no doubt the biggest part of the Facebook experience, it shows you what everyone is saying and doing all in one place. It is a constant stream of all of your friend’s photos, events, birthdays, stories, and everything else you can think of. The last major update to Facebook’s newsfeed took place way back in 2011 and since then the news feed hasn’t changed much except the incorporation of ads in your newsfeed. Since then a majority of Facebook’s users have begun using Facebook on their mobile phone instead of their computer and Facebook has taken notice of that. Even so the mobile app for Facebook on any OS is still buggy and lacking in the feature department. This has given me reason to believe that this newsfeed redesign will focus a little more on Facebook’s mobile users more than anything and bring the desktop version of Facebook a little closer to the mobile version.
