Android KitKat Statue

Google did the unimaginable when they announced the name of the next version of the Android platform.  This was such a huge surprise because usually when we get a confirmed version name, it is when Google officially announces the update and the new features packed inside.

Now that we know that the next version of Android will be version 4.4 and code-named Kit-Kat, we all want to know when we can find out what is exactly is inside of the update and when we will get our hands on it.  Several Android sites have been tipped that the magical day might actually be coming up on October 14th.  This day makes sense because Google tends to announce new updates and hardware in October.  This would be a perfect day to officially announce Android 4.4 and the Nexus 5.

In addition to the probable Google event date, several features that might be in the next version of Android might include:

  • Firmware availability to older phones
  • Fragmentation changes (screen resizing)
  • Miracast updates
  • New Gallery Visualisation
  • New APIs regarding animations
  • Change android default blue to other preset palette colours
  • New notification widgets

Of course none of this has been confirmed.  In addition to the announcement of Kit-Kat and the Nexus 5, this event could easily include the updated version of the Nexus 10 which was rumored to be produced by Samsung again.  Only time will tell.
